A streetcar ride in San Francisco

In the early 1980s, with the extension of the subway lines to Market Street in San Francisco, California, streetcars were considered an obsolete mode of transportation and streetcar routes began to close. It was decided to hold one last parade of "veterans." The citizens liked the festival so much that they began to hold it annually, and since 1995 the historic streetcars began regular runs. In the streetcar park there are real rarities from around the world. Italy, England, Portugal, Japan, etc. Most were built in 1946-1948, but there are cars of a more venerable age. The oldest one was "born" in 1895. One of our compatriots, built in 1922, also rides the streets of San Francisco. But the real wonder is a trip on a cable car, the so-called "Cable Car". Such streetcars do not run on rails, like regular trams, but on cables hidden in recesses of the road. The streetcar turns and brakes are done manually, using huge levers. The Keble car is a local landmark and pride that has been preserved in its original form in the downtown area.
