Excursion to the Waipio Valley

  Waipio Valley. Located on the island's northern coast, the valley was the place where the crown prince of the Hawaiian royal family spent his childhood, making the valley known as the "Valley of the Kings. Later the area became an important political and religious center of the country, while retaining its amazing natural beauty. The valley stretches for 1,600 meters and is surrounded by cliffs over 600 meters high. The valley is home to most of the native Hawaiians. Today, only about 100 people live in this oasis among the waterfalls, taro fields, and rivers that pervade the valley. In the valley is the highest waterfall on the island, Hiillawe Falls.
