Lassen-Volcanik National Park - tour

Lassen-Volcanik National Park is an area of earthquakes, active and extinct volcanoes, plant abundance, geothermal activity and hot springs, crystal clear lakes and green meadows. Lassen-Volcanik is one of the few places where all four types of volcanoes (lava cone, cinder cone, shield volcano and stratovolcano) are located. Here is the largest lava cone volcano in the world and the southeasternmost volcano in the Cascade Mountains, Lassen Peak (3137 m). The source of volcanic activity in the Lassen area is the shifting of the northern California tip of the Gorda tectonic plate beneath the North American plate. Continuing geothermal activity in the vicinity of Lassen Peak is represented by mud pots, fumaroles, and hot springs. Located in central Northern California, the park began as two independent national monuments founded by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907: Cinder Cone National Monument and Lassen Peak National Monument. The park is located 380 km north of San Francisco. The park is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, but access, difficult in winter and spring. The best time of year to visit the park on foot and by car is August and September. The main activities in the park are fishing, hiking, horseback riding tours, kayaking, and bird watching. There are dozens of hiking trails through the most interesting places in the park. At its southern end are Mill Creek Falls, Broekoff Mountain, Ridge Lake, Boompass Hell, and Lassen Peak. In the northern part are Lake Echo, Paradise Meadow, and Lake Manzanita. In the area of Bute Lakes is the Cinder Cone Monument.
A visit to the hydrothermal area is very popular. Hot springs, bubbling mud pits, and gas clouds abound throughout the park at Boompass Hell in the southwest.
