Denali National Park - tour

  Denali National Park is known as home to the highest peak in North America, Mount McKinley, also known as Denali, at 6,194 meters. The Alaska Range also includes countless other spectacular mountains and large glaciers. Covering more than 6,000,000 acres (24,282 km²) of Inland Alaska wilderness, Denali has 750 varieties of flowering plants, 39 varieties of mammals, 165 species of birds, and 10 species of fish. The main defining species are grizzly bears, caribou, American elk, Dall sheep, and fox. In 1917 the park area was established as Mount McKinley National Park, in 1976 was designated an international biosphere reserve, and finally in 1980 was expanded to be called Denali National Park and Preserve. About 400,000 people visit the park each year. The Denali National Park Visitor Center, located at Mile 1 of Denali Park Road is open May 15-27, 9 a.m.-17 p.m.; May 28-September 15, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. The Muri Science and Exploration Center is open daily 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. year-round to provide park permits and information about the park. Tolkitna Forestry Station, located at the corner of Main & B Street. Tolkitna is open year round, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
